Who is WeConnectU?
WHO WE ARE
We Connect U is made up of students from Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism & Communication (SGJC) assigned to report and produce untold, or largely ignored, stories about life in under-served urban communities in Maryland.
The student reporters will get to know leaders, institutions, residents and the activities and events that help make up everyday life in their assigned neighborhoods, from Little League sports to the church bazaar to employers locating in the community and bringing in jobs.
MAIN INFORMATION
SGJC faculty members with extensive professional experience and mid-career minority journalists brought to campus as professional fellows through a grant with the Knight Foundation, a journalism think tank, will direct the students’ work.
Their stories will be posted on this website and made available via the WeConnectU app, providing a convenient way for residents to keep up with what’s happening in their neighborhoods.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to provide an intimate look at a community and provide useful news and information for those who live, work, play and shop there, as well as train students to identify unique ways to get the news content they produce to audiences through multiple, digital platforms.
